Vocabulary

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Heather and Pierce were going to the bedroom last night to watch some cartoons so Pierce could wind down and go to sleep. I was staying up with James and watching the Lost season finale.

Heather says: “Pierce are you ready to go back to mommy and daddy’s room to lay down and watch some cartoons?”
Pierce responds: “Ok! Daddy? Will you be joining us?”

Heather and I both burst into laughter. Pierce is so smart it’s scary.

New, New Husky Blues

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I was taking the elevator downstairs on my way out of the office the other day. I had an empty tupperware bowl in one hand and a plastic tupperware squeeze bottle in the other hand. I was riding down with two middle aged black women and after a moment one looked at me and remarked, “That’s a smart idea bringing your salad dressing in a little squeeze bottle like that!”. I looked down, embarrassed and considered not responding, but decided to come clean instead. “Actually, I’m not that healthy…this is Barbeque sauce”. All three of us erupted into laughter as the elevator reached my floor and I walked out feeling both happy and husky at the same time.

What’s Going On

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Everyone is doing well around home. James is growing like a weed and smiling constantly. He’s a very happy little boy and still a little angel. He doesn’t cry much at all and when he does he is very easily settled down. He’s started making nice little baby noises when you talk to him. He will lock in on your eyes really intensely and listen to you and usually smile really big and goofy. Then his smile opens up into a big, gummy, opened mouth grin and he’ll say “goo” or “gah” and then kind of grunt and start squirming around like he’s laughing. It’s very endearing and severely cute. And did I mention he is getting huge? He is very solid and feels about like a 3 or 4 month old. He is holding his head up and pushing up on his elbows and if you balance him he can push up with his legs and stand up. I think he’s going to progress physically fairly quickly.

Pierce is having a good time also. He is also testing his boundaries more than ever. Less understanding parents might call it “defiance” but he’s 2 years old…what do you expect? He’s still just as sweet and loving as ever and smart as a whip. He can do things that are absolutely astounding considering his age. His vocabulary is through the roof and you can honestly carry on a full conversation with him when he’s in a chatty mood. We’ve gotten several comments from teachers and friends lately about how smart he is and I’m very proud of him and how he is growing up to be such a good little guy. He’s also using his potty for numbers 1 and 2 now, so it won’t be long now before we are back with just one in diapers….yay! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we are so lucky to have such great little boys. I don’t know what we did to deserve them, but we are truly blessed.

Heather is doing well and just had her 6 week post delivery checkup. She got a clean bill of health and is excited to get out and about after being couped up inside for the past month. I’m doing pretty well too and I’m trying to get all of my old blog posts back up on the site soon. Stay tuned!

Smily

Friday, May 16th, 2008

James is growing up so fast. He started smiling intentionally on Wednesday and he’s just been a grinning boy ever since. I was holding him and he spit out his pacifier so I tried to put it back in him mouth and he clamped down and wouldn’t take it so I sort of just started tapping the pacifier on his mouth and nose and making funny noises and he gave me the biggest smile! He kept smiling for a while and then later that night Heather brought him to bed and laid him down on a pillow and he started beaming again.

I had forgotten what it was like when Pierce was a baby, and I’ve gotten so used to Pierce being so observant and ready to interact that I have to admit I’ve been really anxious to get some kind of response out of James. Just that little act of smiling has really made me feel much closer to him. I can’t wait to see what he does next!

Potty

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Pierce is officially a potty man. He got this super sweet little potty a couple of weeks ago and he is very proud of it. It’s a little potty and when you sit on it a little song about being a big kid plays…

“Hey there big kid welcome back!
You’re so smart you’re right on track!
Take your time and concentrate…
going potty’s just so great!”

Then, when you successfully make a deposit, it plays a drum roll and a big orchestra “ta-da!” plays with, “You did it! Great job! Now don’t forget to wash your hands and get your reward!”. There is a sticker dispenser on the back for his reward. You can also “flush” it once you make a deposit. It’s pretty cool until he gets up and I have to clean the potty out. That part isn’t so cool.

One Month Old

Monday, May 12th, 2008

So James turned 1 month old on Friday! The time is truly flying by. We went to his one month checkup on Friday and he is doing great. He already weighs almost 12 pounds and is 22 inches long. Basically he is the size of your average 3 month old.

James is really a good little guy. He sleeps well and doesn’t cry much at all.

So let’s cut to the chase…what can a 1 month old do?

•Sort of maybe smile. Very cute whatever it is.
•Poop so loud you can hear it from across the house.
•Start warming up to daddy.
•Receive repeated poking and prodding from Pierce.
•Play Wii Tennis surprisingly well.

So there you go. One month down…countless wonderful months to go. I’m so proud of my boys I could just cry.
